Pyongyang traffic posts undergoing major upgrades

The traffic posts in Pyongyang will apparently be undergoing major improvements, according to a August 13. 2009 news bulletin issued by the NK news service KCNA

Traffic Control Platform beneath Umbrella Installed at Intersections of Pyongyang
Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- Unique platforms under umbrellas are being set up in traffic control posts at intersections of Pyongyang these days, attracting attention of people.

The round platform under well-shaped large umbrella is clearly seen at far distance.

The umbrella shields the traffic controllers from sunrays and rain and the platform shuts out heat from the heated asphalt.

The female traffic controllers are commanding the traffic with a bright face on the platform under the umbrella even in the hottest period of summer.

Passers-by stop walking for a while to see the new scene.

They say it can be seen only in the country led by Kim Jong Il.

The traffic controllers are moved by the warm affection shown for them by General Secretary Kim Jong Il who saw to it that the platforms with umbrellas are being set up this time after raincoats, rain boots, sunglasses, gloves and cosmetics as well as seasonal uniforms were provided to them.

This line is a bit absurd - "They say it can be seen only in the country led by Kim Jong Il." - since China has had this traffic control technology for some time, as seen HERE
In fact, I would say Jong Il stole the idea from China.
A special award goes to the first person who finds and posts here a picture of one of these new Pyongyang traffic platforms.

It's about time. It can't feel safe standing in the middle of an intersection, no matter if there's heavy traffic or not. The Dear leader is soooo thoughtful..

American police departments usually don't hire female police for their beauty. But cosmetics would help in many cases.....

I hope they allow advertising on top of the umbrellas. It would be nice to see "google" on the umbrella tops from Google Earth.

Or maybe a feminine hygiene product, it would be so cool to see "This PTG spot brought to you by Tampon Dong-2 , the only female body product personally endorsed by the Dear Leader"
