Back in 2007 the Chinese ambassador, Liu Xiaoming, met with some Pyongyang traffic ladies - see article Here

Now apparently there is a new Liu - Liu Hong Xing, the latest appointed Chinese ambassador to North Korea. New Liu.

Naturally, what would an assignment to North Korea be without a meeting with the female traffic police?

The following article is from the official Chinese embassy in North Korea website.

One of Pyongyang's signature attractions, the ubiquitous traffic ladies. Instead of stoplights, each major city intersection features one of these smartly dressed ladies executing stiff military moves as they guide traffic in all directions. After days of us beseeching him endlessly, our head guide finally relented and agreed to let us photograph some.

After all, with no cars in sight, what for?

But for all that, on some of the intersections we were treated to an incredible sight of so-called traffic girls. They belonged to police, as far as I understood. Standing in the designated circle in the middle of her intersection, each one was immaculately dressed in sky-blue uniform, with blouse underneath, gloves, socks and cap in white, and tie and shoes of black. In the right hand she held red-and-white baton, and a whistle in her left, tools ...

They are absolutely worshiped by male drivers, as the persuit of the idol - if any drivers did have the privilege of being stopped by the female traffic police, they would enjoy the happiness of a lifetime, and I do not know how many men ...

I found this artwork of a Pyongyang Metro attendant:

We should keep an eye on this site, since he states ".....the next time we will devote efforts to women police officers can show you a picture"

He already made a preliminary sketch...

The post was 4 months ago, hopefully we can see a completed PTG artwork soon.

"The Traffic Girls of Pyongyang

The most pleasant surprise in all of Pyongyang is undoubtedly the city’s phenomenal Traffic Girls.

Dressed in crisp, blue and white uniforms (summer) that have obviously been designed by someone with an eye for style, these immaculately coifed women work the middle intersections throughout Pyongyang. Everyone of them is beautiful, young, shapely and chic (in a uniform-wearing sort of way) and on sunny days they ...

Traffic Ladies

Instead of traffic lights, there are traffic ladies. There are some intersections with defunct traffic lights. Since hydroelectricity is unreliable and there are rolling blackouts, the traffic lights cannot be used. Thus, the traffic ladies become the traffic lights.

Apparently the traffic ladies must be of a certain height in order to see all the traffic and pedestrians. She must also be ‘beautiful’, by whose standards I do not know. She must also be highly intelligent ...

Guards At Crossroads

On streets are seen traffic security girls maintaining the traffic order day and night in all seasons, but it was difficult to know their life in detail.

What kind of girls are they?

This curiosity made me turn my attention to the crossroads post by the People’s Palace of Culture in Central District, Pyongyang.
